A fun wedding day!
Sue and Shaun were married on 23rd July 2016 in a truly fun-filled wedding day! The couple held a small wedding ceremony before the date of their wedding reception, which was held at the Deckhouse in Woolwich, Sydney. Sue’s planning for her wedding was a breeze with her relaxed attitude and insider knowledge from her blog, confettiandcakeweddings. Sue chose a simple and classic, strapless mikado gown from our Peter Trends collection and looked absolutely stunning. Take a look through the beautiful photos of their wedding day and you will see just how much fun and love filled it was. Sue is literally beaming in every photo! We are so happy for you both – congratulations.
Peter Trends: How did you meet your husband?
Sue: Shaun and I met at work – in an office (prior to me becoming a teacher). As fate would have it, I got allocated the desk right across from his (randomly) during an office reshuffle. I thought he had a girlfriend. He thought I had a boyfriend. My last day was a Saturday. Shaun came in on that Saturday and pretended he had work to do – just so he could get my number.
Peter Trends: How did your husband propose to you?
Sue: I was on school holidays in January 2016 (about 5 1/2 years after we started dating). Shaun said he wanted to plan a “fun day out.” We had discussed getting married (and looked at rings), but he threw me way off saying that it’ll take a few months to get the ring in. It was a beautiful day in Sydney in January. We met in Circular Quay (he had “something” to do beforehand). He took me over to ARIA – one of our favourite restaurants where we had celebrated events such as birthdays. Then he somehow got me to say “Let’s go to the zoo” – the location of our very first date (even though it was his idea all along that we’d go there). I had a feeling it might happen. I got a text from a friend, who knew where we were, that was uncharacteristically cheerful saying “Hope you’re having a great day with Shaun!” I told him of the text and said “I think she thinks we are going to get engaged today ” and he looked really upset and apologised and said “Sorry, but it’s really not happening.” We left the zoo and I thought nothing else of it. We were back at home, I was lying on the couch about to have a nap and telling him to get ready for dinner at my parents, when he came upstairs to me, got down on one knee and said “I guess we shouldn’t disappoint your friends!” and asked me to marry him. Of course I cried! But because he’d pissed me off on the way home (making fun of me when I was tired) I said “No, but I’ll keep the ring!” haha! But then of course I said yes!
Peter Trends: What was your favourite part of your wedding day?
Sue: Seeing everyone have so much fun. That was our intention all along – to ensure our wedding day was, overall, a FUN day for everyone. We felt so blessed to have a bridal party that was the most relaxed and easy going – there was ZERO drama on the day. We could not wipe the genuine smiles off our faces all day. Spending that day with Shaun felt surreal and we loved and cherished every moment of it.
Peter Trends: How did you find the experience of shopping for a wedding gown?
Sue: I thoroughly enjoyed shopping for a wedding gown. I like to think I was very efficient. I tried on one of nearly every style. I only went to three stores. One of my bridesmaids picked out my final wedding dress! She saw that it resembled another one I tried on that I really liked – but I fell in love with this one immediately.
Peter Trends: What did you love about your wedding gown?
Sue: IT HAD POCKETS! haha I cannot stress how much that resembles my personality. As a teacher, I wear A LOT of a-line style dresses with pockets (very practical for my job). All of my friends know how much I love my a-line, pocketed dresses. So finding a wedding dress that suited my personality was amazing. Although I tried on others that looked pretty, my dress had a sense of fun – which is very much how I like to live life (lots of fun)! I absolutely adored the back of my dress as well. And the fact that it fit me perfectly, off the rack – no alterations needed. Meant to be!
Peter Trends: Any words of wisdom for future brides?
Sue: Try on every style of wedding dress! Even if you think it’s not your style – you have no idea what will make you feel amazing. Also, be yourself! Cannot stress this enough. Don’t worry what other brides (or couples) are doing, make sure your wedding (including your dress) represents you and your husband and your personalities. It’s not about the money spent or all the bells and whistles that you have as part of your wedding. It’ll be a beautiful day no matter how much is spent or where it’s held or what you’re wearing. You do you!
Peter Trends: Is there anything special you would like to share with us about your wedding day?
Sue: My wedding day truly was a magical day. Yes, a few things didn’t go to plan – my cake didn’t look as it was supposed to and started to tilt so we had to cut it early. We found a spelling mistake in our invites the week of the wedding. But, I could not have cared less on the day. Shaun and I had the most incredible time with each other and our family and friends. We danced, we ate and we celebrated- and seeing the smiles on everyone’s faces made our day even more special. We really feel so grateful and so blessed that we were able to have such an incredible day (and within a decent budget)! Also – watching my incredibly white husband dance to Lebanese drums (my background) – HILARIOUS! Bless him!
