Katie & Nick’s
Royal Motor Yacht Club Wedding
Katie and Nick were married on 5th May 2017 by the water at the Royal Motor Yacht Club in Broken Bay, Sydney. The outdoor terrace was adorned with a floral arch and flower petals and the backdrop was a stunning view of Sydney harbour with yachts lined up on the water. Katie chose the ‘Ibiza wedding dress‘ a beautiful soft, lace gown from our Emanuella collection with a customised neckline and lace cap sleeves. We loved having Katie and her family in store at our boutique and we recently asked her a few questions about her wedding day and finding the gown.
Peter Trends: How did you meet your husband?
Kaite: Nick and I met at a bar in Terrigal. He was on a weekend trip away with the boys and I was living there at the time. I started talking to his friends first, when Nick came over all smiles, handed me his phone, that was open to the add contacts page, winked at me and said “you know what to do.” What a pick up line!
Peter Trends: How did your husband propose to you?
Katie: Nick took me back to the secluded cabin we hired in Kiama the first time we went away for a weekend together. He had candles, wine, an open fire and even our dog Patch who became part of the proposal. Very romatic.
Peter Trends: What was your favourite part of your wedding day?
Katie: There were so many but two stand out. As Nick is Irish, you could only imagine what our guests were like when it came to drinking. During our ceremony people were already into the champagne and did a big toast as we were pronounced husband and wife. The other was after every speech all the Irish would break into an Irish song, singing and standing on their chairs, waving their napkins above their head! It felt like a big party and suited both of us!
Peter Trends: How did you find the experience of shopping for a wedding gown?
Katie: Harder than I thought. I always thought I knew what I wanted but everything I tried on just didn’t live up to the image. When I walked into Peter Trends, I just knew I was in the right place. I didn’t even have an appointment and found it by accident.
Peter Trends: What did you love about your wedding gown?
Katie: It was definitely how I got to customise it. I loved the pearl belt I added, as well as the most amazing backless lace dress. I had so many ohhh and ahhhs on the day from the dress. Definitely a stand out dress!
Peter Trends: Any words of wisdom for future brides?
Katie: Yes, just stay true to your vision. I didn’t go with what was in style and tried to keep the entire day just a reflection of Nick and I and that’s what made the day so fun. Also DELEGATE! Do not try and do everything yourself or you will just go crazy. Ask people to help you!
