Rebecca & Bill’s
Sailing Club Wedding
Rebecca and Bill were married on 8th July 2017 by the water at Peter Depeena Reserve, Sandringham with a reception afterwards at the Georges River 16ft Sailing Club. Rebecca chose the ‘Dean wedding dress‘ from our Diva Curves collection and was looked after by our trusted stockist Hugs for Brides in Rockdale. We recently asked Rebecca to share some insights on wedding dress shopping and her special day.
Peter Trends: How did you meet your husband?
Rebecca: Bill and I met online. On our first date we found out that we were both going to Las Vegas at the same time and staying in the same hotel, even though neither of us organised our trips. We had our third date in Las Vegas and the rest has been history.
Peter Trends: How did your husband propose to you?
Rebecca: Bill proposed to me in Central Park, New York. As we were walking through Central Park, we sat down in a small gated tulip garden where he got down on one knee to propose. We used tulips in our bouquets to symbolise this.
The Wedding Dress
Peter Trends: How did you find the experience of shopping for a wedding gown?
Rebecca: Initially shopping for a wedding gown was harder, being plus size. However I was referred to Wendy at Hugs for Brides. I walked in the door, Wendy looked me up and down and said “I know which dress you need. I only just got it in!” Wendy put me in the Peter Trends ‘Dean’ gown. It fit me so well, especially the corset which accentuated my shape. It was the only dress that made my mum, friends and I cry!
Peter Trends: What did you love about your wedding gown?
Rebecca: What wasn’t there to love? The back detail was stunning! I have to say the corset was really comfortable and really hugged me in the right place.
The Wedding Day
Peter Trends: What was your favourite part of your wedding day?
Rebecca: My favourite part of the day was exchanging vows and the speeches. We wrote our own vows without collaborating and they both came out similar and complementary.
Peter Trends: Is there anything special you would like to share with us about your wedding day?
Rebecca: I wanted to break down some tradition along the way as my Dad had passed away before I was able to get married. Dad walking me down the aisle was the only tradition I wanted! However, I was lucky to have my Mum to walk me down the aisle! My mum was my biggest support in organising the wedding and throughout the day. Deciding to break some traditions allowed me to do more of what I wanted, including having my best male friend be a bridesman and Bill’s best female friend as a groomswoman. I wore coloured shoes and rather than throwing the bouquet and garter toss, we had a dance off! Be brave and make the day your own!
Take the time to enjoy the day, it will go by so fast!
