Holly & Jason
Holly and Jason were married on 15th September 2017 at the Portsea Hotel in Victoria. Their reception was held at the same location on the Portsea Hotel Deck. Holly fell in love with our vintage lace wedding dress, Dominica, which she purchased from Fairytales Bridal Boutique in Melbourne. Holly really made the dress her own by adding a customised off the shoulder sleeve to her gown. We recently asked Holly a few questions about her engagement, finding a gown and her wedding day….
Peter Trends: How did you meet your husband?
Holly: Initially online! We had an almost blind first date which Jason arranged at Rococo in St Kilda and the rest is history!
Peter Trends: How did your husband propose to you?
Holly: After brunch at a beachside cafe Jason suggested we walk down to the water. On the pathway down he got down on one knee and held out a ring box.
Finding a vintage lace wedding dress
Peter Trends: How did you find the experience of shopping for a wedding gown?
Holly: A little daunting at the first few fittings, with pressure from staff. But as soon as I put Dominica on I knew she was the perfect dress for me. It fit perfectly off the rack and I took her home that day.
Peter Trends: What did you love about your wedding gown?
Holly: Everything! The shape mostly, so classic and a little vintage. The lace and beading are so gorgeous. I had some beautiful lace off the shoulder straps added, which were the icing on the cake of my amazing gown. I also had a bustle added, which made photos on the beach much easier. Thanks to Bridal by Abbie for my dress alterations and additions, she was amazing.
The Wedding Day
Peter Trends: What was your favourite part of your wedding day?
Holly: Our ceremony was amazing! I was worried it would be boring, I was so wrong. Kate Morgan made it thoughtful, funny, romantic and so us. We loved it so much.
Peter Trends: Is there anything special you would like to share with us about your wedding day?
Holly: We loved including family and friends in our wedding DIY. Me and my maid of honour did all our bouquets and the boys button holes, as well as the centerpieces. The wood for the centerpieces was cut from a tree from my parents property and sanded by Jason. My dad hand made our custom ring boxes also.
Peter Trends: Any words of wisdom for future brides?
Holly: It’s a whirlwind! I didn’t fully understand this until after the day. Arrange a family member or friend who can take you and your husband aside during the day/night just to take it all in.
